Q&A with Dr. Lere

My real-life reactions to your real-world challenges.

Dr. Lere,

My boss is driving me crazy. I’ve been at my company for five years. I’m good at what I do, and clients like me, but it seems like no matter what, my manager is constantly breathing down my neck. He is a classic micromanager and wants to be over-involved in every project I’m working on. I find it discouraging and defeating but am not sure what to say or do.

I don’t know anyone who loves being told what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and why they’re doing it wrong. Micromanagement is a common struggle in the workplace. It can feel patronizing and seem like someone doesn’t trust you when they bear down with excessive oversight and try to take control over what you’re trying to do.
